MB Refinery and Petrochemical Company Ltd was born out of sheer determination, resilience, and a commitment to overcoming challenges in the oil and gas industry. Our journey began with the establishment of a petroleum depot, a bold step aimed at providing seamless service to our customers. However, the path ahead was far from smooth.
Sourcing petroleum products to meet our customers demands became a significant hurdle. At that time, most of the refineries in Nigeria were not operating at full capacity, leading to a scarcity of products to service the numerous tank farms across the country. As a small company, we faced the dual challenge of limited access to bank facilities and an inability to secure foreign exchange to import product, which made our situation even more difficult.
For two grueling years, we struggled to keep the business afloat, navigating a highly competitive and unpredictable oil and gas market. Faced with these harsh realities, we made a pivotal decision to shift our business focus entirely from Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) to Heavy Fuel Oil (HPFO). This strategic move, though risky, allowed us to survive and carve a niche in a challenging industry.
Our transformation began when we started lifting Heavy Fuel Oil from a modular refinery, a decision that not only stabilized our operations but also sparked a new vision. The challenges we encountered in sourcing petroleum products inspired us to consider building our own modular refinery to mitigate these bottlenecks and create a more sustainable supply chain.
What started as a simple idea gradually evolved into a concrete plan. Through relentless effort, unwavering commitment, and by the grace of God, our vision became a reality. Today, MB Refinery and Petrochemical Company Ltd stands as a testament to resilience and innovation, contributing significantly to the growth and sustainability of Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
